Every all star game you will find a few players nobody expected to be there at the beginning of the season. We will be looking at those players today.
Braves: Josh Donaldson: The third basemen is just a couple seasons removed g an MVP candidate. He could easily regain that form.
Marlins: Drew Steckenrider: In a season where the Marlins don’t expect to contend, Steckenrider could breakout and be moved to a contender at the deadline
Mets: Brandon Nimmo: I’m extremely high on Nimmo, I believe he could go for 25 homers and have an OPS of around .850
Phillies: Seranthony Dominguez: Dominguez went all of 2018 with a WHIP under 1.00 and an ERA under 3.00. Easily one of the best relievers you’ve never heard of.
Nationals: Brian Dozier: Dozier has shown he has the ability to hit .270 with 35 bombs and 95 RBIs. He’s a good player.
Cubs: Yu Darvish: After two straight seasons of not being able to reach 50 innings, if Darvish can return to form he can lead the Cubs pitching staff.
Reds: Eugenio Suarez: Another player I’m very high on, I believe Suarez even has MVP potential after a .892 OPS with 34 homers
Brewers: Corey Knebel: Milwaukee doesn’t have a ton of surprise options, but if Knebel can match his 2017 campaign he could be reliever of the year.
Pirates: Jameson Taillon: My pick for sleeper Cy Young, Taillon has a chance to be great if he can improve on his year in 2018.
Cardinals: Miles Mikolas: After missing the 2015-2017 seasons, Mikolas returned and was an absolute force on the mound. Expect more of the same.
Diamondbacks: Eduardo Escobar: After recently signing a three year deal, Escobar will be a key part of the offense and could improve further on last seasons success.
Rockies: David Dahl: The former 10th overall pick will be entering his third season and a player of his caliber in Colorado could breakout in a big way.
Dodgers: Max Muncy: The Dodgers second basemen quietly had an elite .973 OPS with 35 homers last year. If he gets the average up he will get MVP votes without a doubt.
Giants: Will Smith: Cool name. The Giants are a weird team, but they have a guy called Will Smith who had a WHIP under 1.000 last season.
Padres: Bryce Harper: Not surprising because he’s good, but because he wasn’t really expected to sign here. The Padres are my prediction for Bryce Harper.
